Hon. Akaliro Leads House Committee on Works to Inspect Mbato-Ofeme Bridge
The Honourable Member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, brought the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Works, led by Hon. Mbah Kalu, in an inspection of the Mbato-Ofeme, Ohuhu Bridge on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
This inspection was prompted by a motion of urgent public importance that Hon. Akaliro raised during a plenary session. He emphasized the urgent need for the reconstruction of the dilapidated Mbato-Ofeme Bridge, underlining its critical condition.
During the plenary, Hon. Akaliro pointed out that, despite having undergone several recent repairs, the bridge requires complete reconstruction to prevent potential casualties, including loss of life.
He highlighted that the bridge is vital for his constituents in Mbato, as it provides access to the rest of Ofeme and enables children to attend the public primary school located on the other side of the bridge.
In response to Hon. Akaliro’s concerns, the leadership of the 8th Abia House of Assembly assigned a delegation to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the bridge’s condition.
During the inspection, the Committee expressed their dissatisfaction with the state of the bridge and pledged to report their findings to the House, advocating for immediate reconstruction.
