Hon. Akaliro Urges Ohuhu Students to Take Advantage of NELFUND As He Holds Education Summit
The Honourable member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency, Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, has called on students in tertiary institutions across Ohuhu to fully utilize the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a means to advance their academic pursuits without financial constraints.
Speaking at the education summit organized to enlighten students about opportunities for higher education financing, Hon. Akaliro stressed that lack of funds should no longer serve as an excuse for school dropout or poor academic progression.
He emphasized that the government’s NELFUND scheme is designed to provide comprehensive support for students, covering full annual tuition fees and providing a monthly upkeep allowance of ₦20,000 to help cater to basic living expenses.
The lawmaker disclosed that he currently sponsors 30 students from the five wards in Ohuhu who are enrolled at the Federal College of Education, Ofeme, under his personal scholarship program.
He highlighted that the NELFUND program would further expand access to higher education, allowing many more Ohuhu indigenes to pursue their academic goals without financial hindrance.
Addressing the students, Hon. Akaliro, who was represented at the summit, explained in detail the step-by-step procedure for applying for the education loan.
. He encouraged students to proactively engage with the scheme to ease the financial burden of schooling and ensure uninterrupted academic progress.
In addition, he revealed that a dedicated help desk has been established at his constituency office to provide guidance and hands-on assistance to students navigating the application process.
The summit also featured interactive sessions where students were able to ask questions about eligibility, application timelines, and other aspects of NELFUND, ensuring that they left the event well-informed and motivated to apply. Hon. Akaliro concluded by reminding the students that education is a key driver of personal and community growth and that government-backed initiatives like NELFUND are critical tools for achieving academic excellence and long-term success.
