Court Convicts Singer Portable, Hands Him Three-Month Jail Term

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been convicted by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo and sentenced to three months in prison.

The conviction, which took place at the Magistrate Court in Ifo, Ogun State, on Tuesday, stems from a three-count charge involving assault and theft of musical equipment, as outlined in charge sheet No. MIF/192C/2023.

Portable was initially arraigned in April 2023 and granted bail in the amount of N300,000 with two family sureties. However, he was remanded into custody last week after failing to appear at several previous court hearings.

According to the prosecution, the offenses occurred on November 18, 2022, in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District, where Portable and others allegedly assaulted a man named Emmanuel Oluwafemi and stole studio equipment.

Magistrate Ilo found the singer guilty on two out of the three charges. For Count 1 (conspiracy to assault), he was sentenced to one month in prison or a fine of N10,000. For Count 2 (unlawful assault), he received a two-month prison sentence or a fine of N20,000.
