U.S. Launches Christmas Day Strikes on Suspected ISIS Targets in Northwest Nigeria — Trump Says

On Christmas Day, former U.S. President Donald J. Trump announced that, at his direction as Commander-in-Chief, the United States carried out what he described as “powerful and de×dly” strikes against ISIS-linked militants in northwest Nigeria. In a post on his verified Facebook page, Trump said the targets were militants accused of attacking and killing civilians — “primarily innocent Christians” — and warned that further action would follow if the violence continued.
Trump credited the U.S. military with conducting “numerous perfect strikes,” adding that the United States “will not allow radical terrorism to prosper.” He closed the message by praising the military and extending Christmas wishes.

As of the time of his statement, U.S. defense officials had not publicly confirmed details of the reported operation, and the claims could not be independently verified. Authorities in Nigeria had also yet to issue a formal response, and no official casualty figures or precise strike locations were immediately available.

Nigeria has faced periodic attacks from extremist groups in different parts of the country, though direct U.S. military involvement there has historically been limited and often focused on training and intelligence support. If confirmed, the reported Christmas Day strikes would represent a significant escalation in U.S. action in the region. Further updates are expected as more information becomes available.
