Abia Govt Commissions Ultra-Modern Health Centre in Umuawa-Alaocha
The Abia State Government has commissioned an ultra-modern health centre in Umuawa-Alaocha, Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area, as part of its commitment to improving access to quality healthcare across the state.

Commissioning the project on behalf of the state government, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Ifeyinwa Blossom Uma-Kalu who represented the commsisoner of health charged the people of Umuawa-Alaocha to take ownership of the health centre, make good use of it, and ensure its protection. She reiterated the state government’s resolve to provide accessible and efficient healthcare services to all communities in Abia.
In her remarks, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs. Megadalene Egondu Ugoanusi, who hails from the community, expressed gratitude to the Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR for what she described as a “wonderful gift” to her people. She noted that the facility, which includes a standard laboratory, would greatly ease the health challenges of residents and save them the time and cost of seeking medical services elsewhere.
Also speaking, the Eze Designate of Umuyota Autonomous Community, High Chief Sunny Nlewedim, lauded the Governor and the state government for the unprecedented gesture. He revealed that before now, the community had been responsible for setting up and managing a small health post to meet their healthcare needs. According to him, the new health centre marks a historic milestone as the first fully built and equipped healthcare facility in the community.
The President-General of Umuawa-Alaocha, Hon. Chinenye Uwadi, in his vote of thanks, praised the government for bringing meaningful development to the area. He described the health centre as the first major government project in the community and assured that residents would make judicious use of the facility while ensuring its maintenance and protection.
The commissioning ceremony attracted the presence of the SSA on Ease of Doing Business to the Governor, Barr. Agbonma Jennifer Ukobasi, community leaders, health officials, and residents who expressed joy and appreciation to the Abia State Government for its developmental strides under Governor Alex Otti.
