The executive Governor of Edo State, Dr. Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sadness over the devastating fire that engulfed the main market in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state.
The fire, which broke out at about 8 p.m. on January 21, destroyed shops and goods worth millions of Naira.
While describing the incident as highly unfortunate, He extended his heartfelt sympathies to the traders who lost their goods and other valuables.
Okpebholo reassured them of his administration’s commitment to providing the necessary assistance to help them recover from the great loss.
The governor also disclosed that his government is cooperating with relevant agencies, such as the fire service, emergency management teams, and the local government council, to evaluate the extent of the damage and provide immediate support to those affected.
He urged residents to remain calm and work in synergy with authorities as efforts to address the aftermath of the disaster are underway.
He expressed confidence that the challenge would be overcome through colleftive efforts and solidarity.
“It is worth noting that this tragic fire comes just six months after a windstorm toppled over a century-old tree at the same market, crushing four traders to death following a heavy downpour” He said.
