Mayor Ikeji Commences Enforcement of Ban on Indiscriminate Parking/ Trading on the Roads Within Umuahia North Metropolis
In response to the executive order of 12th January, 2024, banning the indiscriminate loading and offloading by commercial vehicle within Umuahia metropolis, the Mayor of Umuahia North LGA, Hon. High-Chief Victor Ikeji (Kpakpando Gburugburu) led the enforcement team to ensure compliance. The Mayor and his team stormed the streets of Umuahia as early as 7:00am on Monday January 15th, 2024.
Mayor Ikeji moved to various roads and motor parks within the city to ensure commercial vehicles and traders do not cause needles gridlocks on the roads.
The Mayor who addressed some of the traders and motorist, said “the government is not opposed to them doing business to cater for their family, instead they will be supported to grow. He however adduced that in doing their business, it must be done in an ordely manner and without disruption to traffic flow”.
He frowned at how some of the traders displayed their wares on the middle of the road and motorist parking vehicles also at the centre of the road.
He cautioned that a team has been set-up against obstruction of major roads and touting. And reiterated that anyone found violating the order will have their vehicles impounded or their goods confiscated.
Mayor Ikeji opined that, Umuahia is a capital city and as such people should be able to commute our high streets without facing needless gridlocks and obstruction.
He concluded that this exercise will be routine and spontaneous.
