LP Crisis: Appeal Court Dismisses Abure\u2019s Appeal, Slams Nasarawa Judge, Awards \u20a610m Cost<\/p>\n
The Court of Appeal has dismissed the appeal filed by Julius Abure led faction of the Labour Party, describing it as lacking merit and upholding the earlier decision of the lower court.<\/p>\n
In a strongly worded judgment, the appellate court criticized the Nasarawa State High Court judge who issued an interim order against Nenadi Usman, labeling the action as \u201creckless\u201d and declaring that the court acted without jurisdiction.<\/p>\n
The court further clarified that the constitution of the party\u2019s interim committee remains an internal affair of the Labour Party Nigeria, and should not have been subjected to judicial interference in the manner it was handled at the lower court.<\/p>\n
However, it noted a key distinction that the suit before the Nasarawa High Court was actually instituted against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and not strictly an internal party dispute.<\/p>\n
The appellate court therefore affirmed the decision of the lower court in its entirety, ruling that the appeal filed by Abure was devoid of merit.<\/p>\n
As part of its ruling, the court also imposed a cost of \u20a610 million against Abure.<\/p>\n
