Why I Missed Buhari\u2019s Burial \u2013 Peter Obi<\/p>\n
Former Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, has explained why he was absent at the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, which held on Tuesday 15th July, 2025 in Daura, Katsina State.<\/p>\n
Obi, who shared the details Today on his verified Facebook page after a visit to the late President\u2019s family in Daura, said he had made every effort to attend the burial but was hindered by a \u201clogistical challenge beyond his control.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYesterday morning, after a condolence visit to the family of the late Awujale of Ijebuland in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, I tried to be in Daura to attend the burial of our late President Muhammadu Buhari, but all my efforts proved abortive due to a logistical challenge beyond my control,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Obi said he immediately reached out to a member of President Buhari\u2019s family to explain his situation, and received a gracious and understanding response, after which he promised to visit the next day.<\/p>\n
Fulfilling that promise, Obi was in Daura Today Wednesday, July 16th, accompanied by Senators Ireti Kingibe, Okey Ezea, and Dr. Tanko Yunusa, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement. They joined Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno, and other dignitaries for the Fidau prayer in honour of the late President.<\/p>\n
Obi also used the occasion to reflect on a personal moment he shared with Buhari during the 2022 presidential campaign. \u201cHe said to me: \u2018Peter, you seem to be everywhere and loved by the people. I wish you the best. Please, if you win, do not forget the poor.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
The former Anambra governor, said the late President\u2019s words have remained with him and should serve as a reminder to all leaders of the need to prioritize the welfare of the poor.<\/p>\n
He also prayed for the repose of both President Buhari and the late Awujale of Ijebuland, describing their passing as a deep loss to the country.<\/p>\n
