Hon. Akaliro Flags-Off Reconstruction of Popular Afor -Umuda Ofeme Market
The honourable member representing Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency, Hon Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro, as part of his constituency projects to his constituents, has flagged off the reconstruction of the popular Afor-Umuda Ofeme Market.
The lawmaker, during the Flag-Off of the market reconstruction today, Monday 2nd September 2024, decried the level of decay and deterioration the market has suffered over the years.
He recalled how famous the market used to be when he was growing up. He adduced that the market that attracted traders from far and wide is now a shadow of itself.
Hon. Akaliro posited that the reconstruction of the market to a modern daily market with conveniences will mark the revival of the lost glory of the market.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Umuda-Ofeme, Mr. Ugochukwu Chukwunta, thanked the lawmaker for remembering the people of Umuda-Ofeme; he said that the market had been a subject of campaign for years, and yet nothing has come out of it.
He said the lawmaker did not make a promise but has matched words with action. He thanked him on behalf of his people and prayed to God to bless him.
On his part, the village head of the community, Chief Augustine Ike appreciated Hon. Akaliro for the effort to revive the ancient market. He stated that the people of Umuda and Ofeme, in general, do not forget good deeds. He assured him of the support of his people.
The market upon completion will have a modern-day daily market stall with conveniences and car parks for traders and customers to the market.
