Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has inaugurated a Judicial Panel focused on the recovery of the state’s assets. In a Twitter post earlier today, the governor stated that the desire of his administration would have been to focus on the business of governance and delivering the dividend of democracy, without resorting to any form of inquiry into past deeds. However, in response to large-scale allegations of misuse and misappropriation of public resources by former officials, the governor emphasized the need for inquiry and accountability, as advocated by citizens.
The governor noted that the state had experienced a very hostile handover with many assets inaccessible and operations starting from ground zero. Public lands and institutions, including schools, were not spared from conversion to private use. The Judicial Panel will investigate and recover any assets that were misappropriated or converted to private use.
The governor’s decision to inaugurate the Judicial Panel is a step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the management of public resources in Abia State. The panel will help to restore public trust in government institutions and ensure that public resources are used for the benefit of the people.
